“What Angels and Saints Do in Heaven Now!” (Rev 4:6-11)
We do many things on earth. We like to do things that we enjoy doing. For things that we do not like to do, we avoid. What we like, and do not like, to do reveals who we are from a spiritual standpoint. If a person does not like the activities of heaven while on earth now, he has a serious spiritual condition. He is either not born-again or he is spiritually wayward and far from God. What we do on the Lord’s Day will be what we continue to do in heaven. In heaven, it will be all about Christ. 1. Activities of the Angelic Beings (Rev 4:6-8) The “four beasts” (Rev 4:6) refer to four “living ones,” i.e. the angelic beings. They are “full of eyes” (Rev 4:6). This means that they are discerning beings. Each beast represents an area of ministry. The Lion represents rulership. There is a hierarchy amongst the angelic beings, and some will rule over others. Examples of archangels are Michael, Gabriel and Lucifer. The Calf represents service. The angels are ministering angels who serve God. They are sent to do God’s work either in spirit or in bodily form. They serve the Lord with understanding. The Man represents the ability to reason. The angels are able to make the right decisions and judgments. The Flying Eagle represents swift judgment. The angels are fast, executing God’s judgment without hesitation. Day and night the angels say, “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come” (Rev 4:8). They serve God the Father and praise the Lord Jesus Christ based on what Christ did on earth. They exalt Christ non-stop for His death, resurrection, and return. Even now on earth, all truly born-again believers will want to exalt Christ alone. 2. Activities of the Saints (Rev 4:9-11) When the angelic beings are giving glory and honour to God the Father who sits on the throne, the saints are present. The saints are represented by the term “four and twenty elders” (Rev 4:10); twenty-four being a number of representation of the still-increasing number of saints. The saints will “cast their crowns before the throne” (Rev 4:10) in worship of God the Father, who initiated the salvation plan. The “crowns” (Greek: stephanos, not diadem) refer to the athletes’ reward, and not the crown of royalty. Although we do all constrained by the love of Christ alone and not for reward, God will reward us. We are to serve as unprofitable servants, and return to God whatever rewards He gives to us. While we are still here on earth today, may we love to do what the angels and saints enjoy doing in heaven. |
