From Design to Reality (Exod 39:1-31)
When we design something, we look forward to seeing it become a reality. However, it may not turn out exactly the same as we originally designed it. But this is not the case with God’s designs. In the construction of the Tabernacle, God gave specific commands, with every detail having a specific meaning. And His commands were to be followed exactly as He had instructed. In Exodus 39, the children of Israel followed God’s design of the priestly garments and obeyed His instructions exactly as they proceeded to make the priestly garment for Aaron. 1. Beauty of God’s Design The four main parts of the priestly garment were the ephod, breastplate, robe and mitre. Made from beautiful materials, they were designed to manifest the glory, and to display the majesty, of God. The beauty of God’s design is based on His holiness. Any design that is against God’s holiness cannot be regarded as beautiful. God’s design for the church is the same. We are called to be priests for God in this world. We must never distort God’s design, but do all based on His design, so that we can show forth the beauty of God in our lives. 2. Obedience to God’s Design When we know the beauty of God’s design, we will not want to change anything but will want to obey it carefully. God has revealed to us His design, purpose and plan in His Word. We must make them our anchor, and obey and do according to His principles. We must have whole-hearted faith and trust in God, and do all according to His commands. 3. Excellence of God’s Design God gave the children of Israel the necessary skills to make the priestly garments according to His design. And they put in their utmost efforts to follow God’s design as they possessed the heart and desire to do God’s work. We too must have the heart and desire to follow God’s design when doing His work. Then the excellence of God’s designs in all that we do for Him will be seen. We must not do God’s work haphazardly, but with diligence and out of love for Him. This must be applied to all areas of our lives, including our service in church. In this way, the fruition from design to reality will glorify God and be a wonderful blessing to God’s people. |
