Consecrated unto God (Exodus 25:23-40)
The Tabernacle was God’s dwelling place in the midst of His people. This was a great privilege for the children of Israel, showing how God enjoys fellowship with them as His chosen people. It also commands the consecration of God’s people. This serves as a reminder that they are God’s children in every area of their lives. The two pieces of furniture recorded in Exodus 25:23-40 teach us important truths about our consecration unto God. The Table of Shewbread (Exod 25:23-30) 1. A Fresh Consecration Shewbread carries the idea of presenting ourselves to God. It is also described as hallowed bread (1 Sam 21:6), meaning holy, set apart for God. That is what consecration is, to set ourselves apart for God’s service. The shewbread was to be freshly presented on a weekly basis (Lev 24:5-9). It is a constant reminder to reconsecrate ourselves over and over again, committing ourselves to God, being holy and ready always for service unto Him. 2. A Joyful Consecration As the shewbread is presented to God, it also symbolises the looking towards Him for every provision. It was to be enjoyed by the priests (Lev 24:9). It signifies us taking what we have been blessed by God with, and then giving a portion back to God out of thanksgiving. Whenever we present our offerings, we are reminded how God has provided for us and therefore we offer with much joy. We continue to trust in God for His provision. As His children, we must always look towards, trust and depend on Him. The Candlestick (Exod 25:31-40) 3. A Bright Consecration The light of the candlestick is supposed to keep burning day and night. This is a statute appointed by God. This light describes to us how God is our Light in this dark and sinful world. In turn, God’s people will reflect God’s light to the rest of the world. God’s truth should reflect through us to expose the world of its sin and wickedness. Israel was supposed to be that light for God until they sinned and fell. Today, the church of Jesus Christ, has become God’s light. Let us shine forth for Christ. In order to shine brightly, we need to live a consecrated life. |
