Communing with God (Exod 25)
It is a wonderful and precious thing to be able to commune (share our innermost thoughts and feelings) with loved ones and close friends whom we trust. In this passage, God prescribes how we should commune with Him. God takes delight in communing with His people. Christians today have this privilege as God dwells with them. This passage contains many details about the materials and colors to use in the building of the Tabernacle and the Ark of the Covenant. We can draw spiritual lessons from the details of the Tabernacle, but we should not spiritualize or allegorise the details given. 1. Willingness in Communing with God (Exod 25:1-7) Our communion with God must come from a willing heart. The offerings from God’s people were collected for the construction of the Tabernacle. The different colours and materials prescribed by God were given to protect God’s people from deviating from God’s way. When we follow God’s way, we know God accepts our worship. 2. Nearness in Communing with God (Exod 25:8-9) From the passage, God will dwell with man in His prescribed Tabernacle. Today, we worship God in spirit and in truth, no longer in location. God is always near His people. 3. Mercy in Communing with God (Exod 25:10-22) The mercy seat above the Ark of the Covenant signifies the covering of mercy (the place where the mercies of God can be enjoyed). Through God’s mercy, He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to be our atoning sacrifice. Through Christ, we can approach God and commune with Him. Do we take the name of Christ in vain? Let us commune with God, for He seeks to commune with His children. |
