To do good, we need God’s strength. If God’s children are tired of doing good, no one else will do God’s work. The following are possible reasons that may cause us to be tired: As we grow older, we slow down physically and tend to tire more easily. People whom we serve may be ungrateful and criticise us. This may lead to mental or emotional tiredness. Lastly, in facing constant spiritual battles, we may feel tired spiritually.

In Galatians 6:9-10, God gives three arguments as to why we are not to be tired of doing good.

  • Guaranteed Fruits (Gal 6:9)

The good that we do is guaranteed by God to bear fruits. However, the fruits may not be according to our expectation or definition. The fruits are defined by God. When we do good, we are allowing God to use us to do His work. God can work through us. We are a pen or a tool in the Master’s Hand. This good work cannot fail with God’s omnipotence behind it. Thus, we must not stop doing good even when we are tired or when people do not appreciate our good works. Our good works will bear fruits “in due season,” i.e. according to God’s own timing, not ours. We must not be discouraged or be result-oriented, but continue to trust God, do good and serve. God has given us the privilege to be His hands and feet. We are serving God, and He guarantees the fruits.

  • Precious Time (Gal 6:10a)

The word “opportunity” means time. We must continue to do good as long as God gives us time (i.e. life). Our problem is that we think we have all the time in the world, which may lead us to procrastinate in doing good. One day, time will run out, and the window of time for us to do good will be shut. Let us redeem time. Count it, cherish it, value it. Use it faithfully to do the good that God wants us to do instead of using our precious, God-given time for worldly pursuits.

  • Special Time (Gal 6:10b)

There are many like-minded brethren in the household of faith who need to be encouraged or be lifted up spiritually. This service to our brethren can only be done now while we are here on earth. We cannot do it anymore when we get to heaven. Let us use this special time on earth to provoke one another unto good works, and encourage one another in the faith, especially the spiritually mature ones to those younger in faith. Do good to lift one another up as we continue in our daily spiritual battles while on earth.
